“Când m-au adus acasă de la spital, după câteva zile, când am început să învăț să merg dar nu aveam curajul nici să cobor în curte, în ziua aceea, într-una din zile, a fost eclipsă de soare și copiii m-au rugat să ies în curte să văd și eu eclipsa, să mă bucur de acest fenomen. Și nu aveam curajul să cobor. Copiii s-au oferit să mă ia în brațe să mă ducă în curte și eu am refuzat și am încercat, mi-am impus, am coborât scările și am ajuns în curte și am văzut și eu eclipsa.”

Am avut muncă de birou și de la statul pe scaun ore întregi am trecut de… mergeam acasă și mă apucam să fac treabă. Efort fizic… treceam de la o stare la alta, ceea ce în timp mi-a dăunat. A început să mă doară spatele. N-am dat importanță. Erau niște dureri suportabile. Făceam gimnastică, durerile dispăreau. Dispăreau durerile și viața continua, doar că într-una din zile a început durerea să fie mai mare. M-am dus la medic și am primit vestea tristă că am hernie de disc.
Abia am ajuns acasă. Nu știu cum am ajuns, de la Policlinica până acasă sunt 200 metri. Și n-am mai… m-am urcat în pat și n-am putut să mă mai dau jos nici măcar la toaletă. În fine, niște dureri cumplite. Iar dimineață nemaisuportând durerile, am rugat să vină ambulanța. A venit ambulanța și în momentul în care m-au ridicat de pe pat, am crezut că mor. Niște dureri cumplite, cum să… ca o fiară care e tăiată, ceva de genul. Deci cumplit a fost.
Când m-au luat pe targă, după aceea mi-a spus Elena că Vlad era… în holul ăsta și plângea… plângea de mila mea. El era foarte milos, îmi semăna mie foarte mult. Gata, ajunge.
În ambulanță, mi-au făcut o un calmant, mă rog și am ajuns la spital. După investigațiile de rigoare, m-au programare la operație, și m-a operat Dr Bălașa. Dar medicina pe vremea aia nu era destul de avansată, în 1999 și nu a înlocuit nimic la discul respectiv și acolo am o ceva lipsă. Da. Și încă suport acea intervenție pentru că celelalte vertebre se… în timp alunecă și…
Ajungând acasă după operație, recuperarea a fost foarte grea. Am învățat să merg din nou. Mi-era frică, nici să ies în stradă, darmite să merg la magazin. Îmi aduc aminte de Vlad. E a insistat foarte mult să cobor în curte, vroia să mă ia în brațe.
Niciodată nu trebuie lăsat să se agraveze, e adevărat. Dar na, dacă mergeam din timp, la semnalele acelea repetate când și când, probabil când făceam efort, începea să mă doară, era un semnal de alarmă și trebuia să merg să văd de ce mă doare, care era cauza. Și atunci dacă din timp se descoperea, cu un tratament, cu fizioterapie, eu știu? Se putea evita operația. Dar a fost neglijența mea.
Da, din cauza că aveam copii, aveam foarte multă treabă, la birou la fel - mulți contau pe experiența mea și am neglijat.
Da. Și acum, acum da, fac analizele anual, am grijă. Da. Acum merg la terapie, la Techirghiol, fac nămol în fiecare an, zece zile consecutive și mă simt mai bine.

I was doing office work, and from sitting in a chair for hours, I would go home and start doing chores. Physical effort... I would switch from one state to another, which over time took its toll. My back started hurting. I didn’t pay much attention. They were manageable pains. I did gymnastics, and the pain would go away. The pain would disappear, and life went on, but one day, the pain got worse. I went to the doctor and got the sad news that I had a herniated disc.
I barely made it home. I don’t even know how I got there; it’s only 200 meters from the clinic to my house. And then... I got into bed and couldn’t get out, not even to go to the bathroom. Anyway, the pain was excruciating. And in the morning, no longer able to bear it, I called for an ambulance. The ambulance came, and when they lifted me from the bed, I thought I was going to die. The pain was unbearable, like... like a wild animal being cut, something like that. It was awful.
When they put me on the stretcher, Elena later told me that Vlad was... in the hallway, crying... crying out of pity for me. He was very compassionate, very much like me. That’s enough with the crying.
In the ambulance, they gave me a painkiller, and I arrived at the hospital. After the necessary investigations, I was scheduled for surgery, and Dr. Bălașa operated on me. But medicine at that time, in 1999, was not advanced enough, and they didn’t replace anything in the affected disc. So now I have a missing part there. Yes. And I still feel the effects of that surgery because over time, the other vertebrae are... slipping, and...
After coming home post-surgery, the recovery was very difficult. I had to learn to walk again. I was even scared of going outside, let alone going to the store. When they brought me home from the hospital, after a few days, I started to learn to walk again, but I didn’t even have the courage to step into the yard. I remember Vlad. He insisted a lot that I come down into the yard; he wanted to carry me in his arms.
You should never let it get worse, it’s true. But well, if I had gone earlier, at those repeated signals, when I would exert myself and start feeling pain - that was a warning, and I should have gone to see why I was hurting, what the cause was. If it had been discovered earlier, with treatment or physiotherapy, who knows? The surgery could have been avoided. But it was my negligence.
Yes, because I had children, a lot of work, and at the office too—many depended on my experience, so I neglected it.
Yes. And now, now, yes, I get tests done every year, and I take care of myself. Yes. Now I go to therapy, to Techirghiol, I do mud therapy every year, ten consecutive days, and I feel better.
